Surah Ash-Sharh – The Consolation

Ash-Sharh (Arabic الشرح, “The Consolation”) is the 94th surah of the Quran. It was revealed in Mecca and has 8 verses. It begins in Juz 30 on page 596 of the Medina Mushaf.

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

94:1

أَلَمْ نَشْرَحْ لَكَ صَدْرَكَ

Alam nashrah laka sadrak

Have We not expanded thee thy breast?-

94:2

وَوَضَعْنَا عَنكَ وِزْرَكَ

Wa wa d'ana 'anka wizrak

And removed from thee thy burden

94:3

ٱلَّذِىٓ أَنقَضَ ظَهْرَكَ

Allazee anqada zahrak

The which did gall thy back?-

94:4

وَرَفَعْنَا لَكَ ذِكْرَكَ

Wa raf 'ana laka zikrak

And raised high the esteem (in which) thou (art held)?

94:5

فَإِنَّ مَعَ ٱلْعُسْرِ يُسْرًا

Fa inna ma'al usri yusra

So, verily, with every difficulty, there is relief:

94:6

إِنَّ مَعَ ٱلْعُسْرِ يُسْرًۭا

Inna ma'al 'usri yusra

Verily, with every difficulty there is relief.

94:7

فَإِذَا فَرَغْتَ فَٱنصَبْ

Fa iza faragh ta fansab

Therefore, when thou art free (from thine immediate task), still labour hard,

94:8

وَإِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ فَٱرْغَب

Wa ilaa rabbika far ghab

And to thy Lord turn (all) thy attention.
